The Sterile Processing Technician Certification is a certificate designed to prepare students for employment in a hospital setting. This certificate will prepare a student to work in the Central Processing Department and manage the everyday need for the surgical and clinical departments. Some duties would include, but not limited to, decontamination and processing of surgical instrumentation, surgical equipment and maintaining surgical supplies. A Sterile Processing Technician is the heart of hospitals and clinics and plays a main role in the well-being of patients. Throughout the program students will gain knowledge through lecture and by hands-on learning. Students will be required to complete 600 hours of classroom training and direct clinical experience working in a Central Processing Department and at the end be able to sit for the International Association of Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) national certification test.
